A drunk marine, and an NCO at that. (non-commissioned officer, or, Sargent, for you non-military types.) He was totally at fault here, and was WAY out of line. Talk about over-reacting. He needs to do some time in Leavenworth. And I suspect he will get that opportunity.

Dishonorable discharge after time served in Leavenworth.
Drunk is no excuse.

IIRC, the military (at least the Navy) doesn't issue Dishonorable Discharges anymore. The worst one could receive, back in the late-80s/early 90s was a Bad Conduct Discharge, aka Big Chicken Dinner.

Oh, believe me, they still have dishonorable discharge. My drunken, brawling, idiot (former Navy)nephew found that out. Apparently the Navy in Guam frowns on getting drunk as hell and picking fights with Marine Corps MP's. He does have the chance to have his discharge reviewed and possibly changed in 3 years, but for now he is DD.
