It doesn't matter who you work for or what industry etc, it sucks all over right now. Everyone is laying off and, it's not going to get better anytime soon as the unemployment rate is still going up and up from 8% to now 10% as was televised a couple of days ago.
I was laid off from Boeing last year along with 15,000 others. I had to scramble around to find work thus the reason to move temporarily to east coast to work on another program. I've been here a few weeks only to be told that they may let us contractors go in a couple of weeks.
A lot of us that just got here found this to be quite upsetting. The issue is: money, lack thereof to be more specific. Due to budget cuts and uncertainty, their customers aren't signing deals as predicted to have happened by last month so, there's no work coming in to keep us all employed.
So, we are waiting out the storm for two weeks. Until then, we are all skating on thin ice. All us contractors have signed on for six-month contracts and, we'll be lucky to go one-sixth the way as judging by what they are telling us now.
I may be hopping back in the Dodge sooner than expected to head back out to the West Coast.
