Best cable speed you can get around here is 16mb down and 2mb up. Comcast Cable hasn't upgraded to Docsis 3 yet, at least not in this area.

not as bad as you would think... couple hundred can get those speeds at home.

work pays $1200/month for our servers to be in two 48U racks in the datacenter. uninterrupted power, internet, cooling, and building security are all included in the price.

the whole building is wired into battery backup, and they have massive banks of batteries in the battery room...each battery is about 4'x1' dimensions. and there are thousands of them. huge copper rails (the size of 2"x6") transfer power around and out of the room they are in...they have millions invested in that battery room alone. then the building has its own power substation from seattle city light, as well as 5 HUGE backup generators. were talkin cummins locomotive engine sized generators capable of generating a few MegaWatts each. whole place has dozens of massive cooling systems throughout the place that circulate hvac through the floor...place is kept between 65-68* F. internet connection coming into that building is a 30Gbps+ fiber connection directly to the internet backbone. we get a 100Mbps line from it for our servers.

they also have 2 very large hughesnet dishes on top of the building for backup in case something happens to the fiber. (we're talking 15-20' dishes)

lots of redundancy and backup systems there to keep the servers happy and up 24/7/365 even during power outages.

yes, and yes. connection from the datacenter.

T1 was and still is ridiculously priced
you can get 100Mbps asymmetrical connection from comcast for less than it costs for a single T1 line.

still slower than symmetrical connection we have at the datacenter. but symmetrical connections are not easy to come by.

for those that don't know the difference...asymmetrical = one side is faster than the other..like download is faster than upload, or vice versa symmetrical = both sides are rated equally. ours shows lower in the test because there are a dozen people remoted in via VPN through that connection, plus a business website is being hosted from it. so download will always be faster than upload ratings since upload is almost always in use.

one of my friends get GBps....... When I lived 40 mi east of where I live now, we got ADSL, and it got 100MBps NORMALLY! No kidding.

75GB of bandwidth???? HOLY SMOKERS! I get 10GB bandwidth on satellite, but you can buy infinitely more as you need. As of late they seem to have uncapped us due to the metre problems, but I have to call and confirm.

1Gbps = 125MBps

capitals matter lol

M = Mega
m - milli
B = Byte
b = bit

8 bits = 1 Byte

connection speeds are usually rated in kilobits, Megabits, or Gigabits.
