GF had that happen a few months back. took that sumbitch apart and discovered it was the hardest part to get out (the gearbox).
found a junkyard for appliances a couple miles away and got a used gearbox for it for $50. slapped it in there and put it all back together and its been purrin like a kitten and workin great since
they are very simple machines. just figure out what part broke, get a new one in there and call it a day. if its an old school top loader they are pretty much universal with parts. gear boxes are all the same, motors are all the same, etc...
tractors with brush hogs are not so easy to move...
we have a 3 cylinder kubota with a brush hog attachment, and granted theres not much that will stop that blade, its a PITA to get into tight spaces or set blade height for a nice even cut...
turning in tight spots with the big loader bucket on the front and the brush hog on the back...thing is like the length of my truck
riding mower is much better...turns a very tight circle being rear steering.
as for maintenance....yeah yeah...both weed wackers need the same TLC
so does my truck and seadoo
truck just needs PS pump and lines replaced. seadoo needs the whole engine replaced.. ugh.. hate-fixing-vehicles!

'94 and '95 are OBD1, '96 and up are OBDll. Engines are the same except for EGR., but the electronics are different.
