2001 Dashboard Cracks
Here's an update from Plastic Parts Inc.:
Hello, Thanks for taking the time to contact us. We do, in fact have those available now. Our website is currently going through some construction, so you won’t find it there. They come in black & can be painted with a vinyl paint to match your truck, or they may be left black. We do recommend that you have a body/interior shop install them, as the whole dashboard must be taken apart. The cost is $329.00 plus shipping. If you’re interested, please call us @ 1-800-331-7081. We’re open from 8m –4pm Eastern.
Thanks again!

They sent me a pdf file of their latest brochure, which I can't open for some sad reason. Contact Melanie for your own copy. Yes, there's hope for the die-hard loyalist!!

This is the reply I received from them this week.
Yes! We are planning on reproducing the Dodge Ram 1500 dashboard. The model were working on is the 1997-2001. We just received one and are making a mold as we speak. This is a long process, so it won’t be available for a few months. I do see a big market for them.
Do you have a Dodge with this problem?
I'll let you know when they become available if you'd like.
Thanks for taking the time to contact us.

Melanie Browne

I probably have a post here somewhere on this thread. I purchased my 2001 in 2005. I bought it from a dodge dealership. it was low milage but it was obvious lots of parts did not have 4 years of wear on them, front and rear bumpers looked brand new. Reading about these crack issues, I assume they replaced the dash before I bought it. I babied this thing and never used armor all on it. It started cracking 6 months after I got it. it now has a fist sized hole in , looks like only a couple a milimeters of plastic are holding the rest together. I plan on getting a coverlay but there is almost nothing left to adhere to. I think I will put fiberglass mat over it to bond it some. Maybe in the future I will replace the dash, I wonder if we could apply something to the backside to help, dynamat, Rhinoliner?
Jesus Christ, you purchased a vehicle what, 10 years ago at least, that has problems now.
Lmao.
seriously? That's the point. I bought this truck, paid good money, cared for it, and when I have a stupid problem that seems to be affecting a lot more people than me, they dont stand begind their product, or treat you like crap...oh...and then lets see, how much $$ are we spending as taxpayers bailing them out? dashmat? SERIOUSLY?
I have a 1998 and my dash is fine Am i lucky ? or do guys have no cold weather so its allways a million degrees in the truck ??? I would like to see a pic of the damage might be what i got to look forward to Thanks
damn dude, many of us have owned much older cars and they dont have actual holes in the dash board, cracked, ripped maybe. In fact I replaced a slightly damaged(speaker holes)dashboard in my 1986 lebaron, I replaced it with one from the junkyard that was just as old and it is in perfect condition. dashboard should be the last thing one has to worry about.
Wouldn't the idiots be the one's who didn't take the precautionary measures to protect it?
And coming from the person who punches Midas employee's because they tell him what he doesn't want to hear, who are you to be talking?
