2001 Dashboard Cracks
^^^ i 2nd that, i havent had any problems with mine either. plus you are seeing less and less of these trucks on the market, so why would they do anything about it. Mabye you need to take your truck for a nice ride on some washboard road for a couple miles or just beat the S hit out of it a bit to losen up the plastic a bit. lol, but yeah not the end of the world, a couple bolts and a new dash and its fixed. just getting sick of hearing the same old BS
I agree with the above statements. My dash is fine, but of course it has a good possibility of cracking if it is sitting in the sun over a period of time, and gets very hot. When your vehicle it 10 years old, and starts getting rust, do go to the manufacturer and whine about it?
Mine just cracked last week. Small crack about 1" in length coming off one of the defrost holes. Hoping it doesn't spread. I wouldn't sue Chrysler over it though, my truck is 8 yrs old. I can see if it were happening left and right on brand new trucks, that would be different.
There was another thread awhile ago about cracked dashes and there were many responses telling the person that posted to stop whining and complaining. And here again people are minimizing the issue and saying stop "whineing".
There are other threads about loose steering, the truck making noises, the engine idling rough, why don't you tell those people to stop whining and complaining? Huh?[sm=huh.gif]

Until you have the gaping holes in your dashboard you can't really say that its not a problem, it may not be a safety issue yet but I'm pretty sure having things under your dashboard exposed to 100 degree weather isn't the best for your truck. And I bought my truck in May of last year with one minor crack in the past year I have cracks virtually everywhere over my dash board as well as 2 large holes. I have gone mudding 2x maybe 3x I don't drive wrecklessly and certainlly dont sit in my truck and bang on my dashboard. It costs hundereds of dollars to get this replaced by the dealership, the stuff provided on the internet seems to be just caps to put over the problem, it doesn't fix it. When you buy a car or truck you don't expect your dashboard to fall apart, and when it happens to a large group of people who bought the truck have the same problem maybe the truck makers should fix it. Its not our fault that Dodge skipped out on our dashboards those certain years they should fix their problem in my oppinion.
I will still say the dashes should NOT crack. Mine is a 2001 and has about a 2" crack in it, The truck is not off-roaded but does go down some ****ty county roads. Look at the Fords and Chevy's of this same age. They don't have dash problems. It is a complete shame too have a ford or chevy guy ride in my truck because they always ask about the crack. All I can say is that it is a POS dash dodge put in. A lot of problems people have are do to abuse and poor maintenance but the dash should have nothing to do with that and far too many people have had this problem not to consider it a defect.
Regarding the headlight issue of the headlights going off after switching from brights to dims, is there a fix for that because I have that problem too?

heat just dries it but UV rays is what make its deteriorate, combine it and wala! crumbly rubber and plastic parts.
My truck is old, 96 model but the dash is like brand new (somewhat), i bought it of a guy from california and its been parked under the sun most of its life, exterior paint can attest to it. I agree that dodge has to do something about the dash, because unlike brake pads or any wear related parts, the dash just sits there and do nothing but gets armoured all...
I guess this is a fluke on their year line, probably a change in vendor.
if they do something about it it will just show how great an auto company they are, if they shirk away then they are just robbing themselves off their own market base.
safety issue? i dont think so, its more like an aesthetic issue, because I have to admit that the gaping hole is really not looking ram tough.
but then again, this is just my opinion, which of course does not count
