keep your first gen cummins. A VE pump truck is always fun and nothing is the same as a first gen. Sell the ford. They ain't worth a crap, and buy a 2nd gen but not the 2nd gen 24 valve. And try and get i believe a 96 or newer. They are the 215hp trucks. Also after 98.5 they went to the 24 valve vp44 trucks. That vp44 is not as good as the VE and definitely not as good as a P7100. Anyways hope this helps.

thank you very much. i will definately take that all into consideration now.. im now thinking on just buying 2nd gen body and putting my first gen cummins in it. i think it would be cheaper that way but i also think that it would be a better truck. i love my cummins now i just dont like the square body on it. with me being so little (5'3" 106lbs) its hard for a girl my size to drive it. esp in town. and it just gets worse when i hook on to my horse trailer. so maybe that is the way i will go.. try to buy a 2nd gen with a blown motor or something like that. what your guys opinions?? am i just wasting my time or is it a good idea??
let me know

^I do believe you would be wasting your time.
You must remember that CUMMINS trucks don't "blow" their engines.

Also, you would have to swap most of your wiring from truck to truck.
Better off just buying a 2nd CUMMINS and keeping the 1st gen for giggles.

Doing a diesel conversion on a gas truck is not an exercise to be undertaken lightly...... I am not 100% sure on this... but, I do believe the diesel trucks had a reinforced frame, to handle the additional weight. If you use a 96, or later truck, you will have to come up with some method of controlling the trans. (94 and 95's were the RH trans, hydraulically shifted, not sure how they managed TCC, and fourth gear in those...... might be a relatively simply fix.)(or, just get one with a manual trans.....)

If you wanted to go that route though, find a truck that already HAD a diesel in it, and blew up. Would make reasonably certain that everything you needed was already there.

yeah...hmm ok.. im lost on what to do then. because i dont have the money or the time to just keep my 1st gen for giggles. between school and workin the ranch i aint got time. i need a truck and i need to get back to work. my truck now is working just fine,but i cant do my driving that i need. between gettin a second job in town and then the ranch it hard to do both in a big bulky 1st gen. that why i was looking to sell my 1st gen straight out. right now my ranger is my town truck, my "run around" vehicle. and so my dodge is left to do the "work". 2x4 dont get me far in the mud. esp where i live. when it rains and gets muddy, it gets hard on a truck.

^Yeah, I know a family that had the same problem.
She (the mom), loved the Dodge CUMMINS, but they just couldn't afford the payments...that and the truck kept getting stuck since it was 2WD.

You might be able to find a nice 4x4 CUMMINS, but it ain't gonna be cheap. They run close to 10 grand around here....even for a 10 year old truck.
My only advice at this point is...GET LOOKIN'!!

Thats what I did, got me a nice truck too.
