46RE tranny service! Maybe upgrades?
#11
I'm using the nappa atf right now and I haven't had any problems. Make sure the gasket is the cork kind. I used a rubber one and it didn't seal right. Came out the next morning to find a nice puddle of tranny fluid waiting for me. Although with a different tranny pan you might not have to worry about it.

So what is the procedure to adjusting the bands? Or should my Haynes repair manual have this info? Srry, don't know diddly about fiddling with the tranny...
Also how many quarts does the 46re auto take stock on '97?
You wouldn't happen to have a part number for a good pan gasket would ya?

I have no clue about the band adjustment, all I know is that the guy who did it turned it a good 5 times, it may be different on yours. I bought 7 quarts of atf and he said that was plenty. Only used 5 which led me to believe they didn't flush out the entire system but I was overdue for a tranny service having run 2 years with a non atf+ fluid. The guys at napa gave me a choice of which gasket to get and I went for rubber thinkin it was better than cork. It wasn't. Just ask for a cork one when you buy your fluid. If you don't know how to adjust the tranny bands I wouldn't do it myselft. I've heard about people burning **** up by adjusting them too much thats why I had someone else do it.
