Why must everyone hate?
So yeah. I'm getting a 1988 suburban tomorrow as a project. and everyone is sorta just hounding me for it. i don't know why. i don't drive that much, i got a good job, still live at home (live in the country no HOA), just it's gettin on my nerves. I mean do people not have projects or nothing anymore? im gonna keep my truck as a DD and do a ground up on the 'burb it just confuses me when i get jumped on for it. sure gas may go up but i drive like 100 miles a week. a tank of gas like every other paycheck. they are just like "you'll be sorry when gas goes up to 5 bucks a gallon again!" and other **** sorta just like makin fun of me. gets on my damn nerves. i just want something to work on, on my time off and weekends and ****. anybody ever give yall hell for doing something you wanna do? and whats yalls opinion on this scenario.
Everybody is entiltle to a one "lack of judgement" mistake in life! LOL>> J/K Hey i say to hell with them! Are they going to invest money in the restoring proccess? No? So say f&^%k to them! I'm usually the kind of person that i don't give a rat's butt about what other people might think. If you are happy with it do it!!!! Good Luck!!!

Do what makes you happy. It isn't your job to appease the gods of brand loyalty. Quite frankly, I don't have any brand loyalty at all. I have been a GM man for years, simply because I know how to work on them. (familiarity breeds contempt?
) I got the dodge because I need a truck, for a reasonable price, and there simply were not ANY Chevy/GMC variants available, that I could afford. I got the dodge, because it was a THIRD the price of any GM product what was similar. I kinda goofed there, but, that's what I get for not doing my research before forking out the cash.
Some folks swear by whatever brand they like, and swear AT the rest. Everyone has their own opinion, but, in reality, ALL the brands have their unique (and some not-so-unique) problems. Just depends on which set you want to deal with. The 88 burban should be a fun project, and being GM, there should be a GREAT deal of aftermarket support. Something that certainly cannot be said for the Dodges....
Does the burban still have the live axle front end? I can't remember when that changed, thought it was in the early 90's??
Enjoy your project. Don't worry about what others think.

I don't flame you one bit. My dad has my truck and is currently driving 50+/- miles a day to go work and it drives him nuts how much gas my truck used. His car gets 38mpg I get 12. It would put him in the poor house if he had to drive that truck everyday to work and back. His next job is event farther away.

hell yeah its still got the live axle. i can still make fun of my buddy. he has a bronco with the TTB front end. haha
Just try to let it slide, seems some of the younger generations seem to think its cool to be an @ss troll.
See it in the youtube vid comments all the time.
If its any consolation, I have a 99 V10, our Imp gallon is 4.54L & I avg 9mpg with it.(TO traffic probably worst in N/A)
Doubt that Burb will get less mpg than that!
As Hey You mentioned tons of afermarket support so shouldnt cost close to what it costs for a Mopar project.
Enjoy your build up
