Default Transmission Swap

I'm hoping(this weekend) to swap the trans from my 98 1500 4x4 318 w/ 231hd transfer case, and put it in the 2000 2500 360 4x4 w/ 241hd transfer case. I know I have to change the tcc lock up and OD solenoid unit(different harness) and quite possibly the Gov solenoid and switch. That's not what I'm worried about however. My concern is whether or not the 241hd is going to bolt up to the 98 tranny. Went to get fluid and seals today, and neither the computer or the National seal book have a listing for a 241hd transfer case in a 2000 2500. Mine is an 2500HD, so I'm starting to get worried. LOL

The 241 transfer case is also longer, you may need to do something with both driveshafts......

So far as I know, there is no difference in mounting between the two cases, as they both bolted up behind the same transmissions, regardless of half ton, three quarter, or one ton. They may simply have not put a gasket there on later years?

I'm still using the 241hd transfer case that is in the 2000. All I'm swapping is the tranny itself. The seals and shaft sizes is what I'm worried about.

Ok, read that wrong......

From everything I can find, your swap should work out perfectly. Why they can't come up with seals for you is a head scratcher though.

I know, there is NO listing for a 2500 or 2500HD for that matter, with a 241 transfer case. All the listing says is 231hd.

Can't find anything for it on advance auto website either... might need to call the dealer, get a number from them, and see if your parts store can cross-reference it.

I also checked all the parts stores websites and not a thing. Only thing I didn't check was for a 3500. Which maybe the 2500HD falls into that category as far as what ever Dodge did. Only because , I assumed a 3500 would have a 47 or 48RE.

Trans only changed with the engine it was behind. A 3500 with a 5.9 gas engine still got the 46RE. Bellhousing bolt patterns are different for the diesel, and V-10. (which the meaner transmissions match...)

I have the build sheet, it is a 241hd TC. That is my concern.

Now get your azz up here and help me tomorrow, or even Sunday! LOL Like I told you, you won't regret it.
