Default 1997 8L vs 2004 HEMI

a guy i work with was bragging about his used 2004 hemi 1500 quad cab he just bought, me having a 97 2500 V10 spoke up and said the old 8L was a better engine, well he challenged me to a race in the spring due to ice on the roads. i was just wondering what shot i have against him, i know the HEMI makes more hp but the V10 makes more low end tq. and mine being a long bed 2500 4x4 vs his 1500 short bed quad cab 4x4 idk about the wight difference, i do have a K&N intake on it. his is bone stock. both are autos. any input on this subject would be awesome, i really feel like i need to put this guy in his place about his damn HEMI. it will be a 1/4 mile race.
thanks

Hhhhhmmmm.... not so sure about that.... Sure, the hemi puts out about 45 more horseys, but, the 10 puts down about 75 ft pds more torque. Weight should be approximately the same?

My guess would be, you will take him out of the hole, provided you can keep from spinning the tires, but, over the long stretch, he will eventually pull ahead.

Torque is what GETS you moving, Horsepower is what KEEPS you moving.

Faster in the 1/4 mile has nothing to do with which is the better engine. These are trucks. You are better off going with a towing contest, or hook up a tow strap and have a good old tug-o-war.

I'd first check the weight of both trucks...and if yours is heavier you are at a disdavantage. All that extra torque will be lost trying to move your truck.
Buy an SCT programmer if hemifever sells one and install. That will wake up your sleeping beast.
Once you do that, practice launching in 4hi and shifting about 40 mph into 2 hi. This is what the diesel guys do. DISCLAIMER: cannot be reponsible for driveline damage!
Lastly, go for the towing contest. Once he spits out a front CV shaft you'll drag hm about like a whupped puppy.

Your 488 ci V10 will run out of gas before the race is over!

For the love of god, please race on a track rather than on the streets.

thanks for the input, yes it would be on a track, but now im thinking of a tug of war, but then the odds would be stacked in my favor as they are in his right now. we will probity do both, just to make it a all around contest, i sure hope he dosent bring up MPG. yikes

An SCT will definantely help your odds, and it will be worth the money to use all the time
