Default Thoughts on these gear prices...

Ok so I got some price quotes from 4 Wheel Customs:
Your price on the Yukon 4.56 Gears for front and rear, Yukon Master install kits front and rear, open carrier for the front, and detroit true track is $1714.99.

With the detroit locker instead of the truetrac, the total is $1869.99 shipped.

Just need to fiqure out my tranny problem first. Never hurts to get price quotes though!

Are the Yukon gears and such that much more expensive?? That seems a tad high to me. I would figger more around 1500 or so for that stuff????? (maybe not name brand gears/install kits though?)

They were like $360 for the install kits. I know that from when I was going to just put those 4:10's I got in the garage in there. 4 Wheel Customs only sells Yukon master install kits. They don't have a in house brand. It seems a couple hundred bucks higher then I expected but I don't know.

The plus side to ordering from 4WC is that Chris is an awesome dude to work with! When I was looking for Dick Cepek DC-1 rims last summer for my Ram he spent a few hours calling around different warehouses and stuff to find those rims for me. Then got back to me and gave me a list of places he found that still had them. I would spend a few hundred bucks more if a guy is that willing to help me. I know seems stupid, but just the way I think.

As far as the gears go, I want Yukon. Always have had great luck with Yukon gears. Of course the shop my Dad works at all they do is Yukon gears and install kits, and have never had a problem.

At least that is with shipping, I don't know why but I always get killed with shipping up here to WI.

I also contacted PORC and Completeoffroad, but haven't heard back yet.

Thanks for the reply HeyYou.

They can't help you with the fronts, but Moe's Performance sells a nice master install kit for the rear, since 3rd gen and 2nd gen rear axles are very similar. Thats where I got my install kit. Their gear sets for the rear may even work.

No problem.

Timken bearings are the thing you want with the install kits. From what I've been told by others who've gone through one or more gear upgrades/changes, other bearings don't last in our axles.

Definitely, when I used to work with my Dad at the shop he is at. That was the first thing I learned about gears... make sure you get Timken bearings lol.

Does your dad still work there? Could he order up the parts thru the shop for you? and get you a bit of a discount????

I understand going with names you trust, and being willing to spend a bit more with someone that you also trust, and has gone the extra mile (or six....) for you. I agree with that sentiment. I also subscribe to it as well.

I've had gears installed twice, once to 4.10, then to 4.56. Both times where Yukon gears and I also have the Auburn LSD in the rear. My price was the same as yours, maybe a little less, but mine also included install. Is that price you are being quoted just for the parts? If so, that is ridiculous.

That's just parts.

How did you like that Auburn unit Silver? Kind of heard bad stuff about them. Do these LSD units such as Auburn and Detroit hold up to 35's??
