Default 8 speed tranny really ??

cant belive there putting 8 speed trans in dodges ! ! lol how you guys think this will effect these rams and srt8 ? do you think it will be hunting for gears ? will this help to have a bigger gear ratio in the rear end since the motor will never top out ? i think it may get annoying with the upshift and downshifts ? whats your guys take on it ?

i dont know if its going to be fun doing all that shifting. but i think it will be like the 6 speeds no need to start in lower gear 2 is just fine. but it will be more like starting in 2 and rolling at 55-6 in 2nd and highway speed running 7th and 8th. depending on load and state. im just wondering what gear ratio is going to be in a trannys and rear ends. bacause i know the 3:55 would only be running like 600 or 700rs at high way speed in 8th gear.

I wish I had an 8 speed transmission everyday. Instead of going between either 1500 or 3500 rpms between shifts at 60 mph, which I really hate. The truck engines, especially the 318s and 360s make gobs of torque off of idle around 1500 rpm...But they arent used because the crappy gear ratios in the transmissions want to shift at 3500. Keep the rpms down low where the motor makes torque by using more gears and you get a better mousetrap; Better efficiency because the RPMs are low, and the vehicle is faster off the line and doesnt loose breath. Once the 8 speed is on market for a few years and proves itself as a good transmission, I'll buy one. (and an EcoBoost-beating turbocharged Penastar V6 comes out)

Will it affect the SRTs? No, because you should be rowing your own in a SRT.

I've always felt dodge at a disadvantage with first and second gears being so far apart.. Chevy has always had steep firsts, and seconds tall enough for even mildly retarded engines to be able to chirp when gettin' on it..

Maybe the engineers at dodge plan on being more creative with the ratio's on this one.

Last I read the 8spd was only an Auto and wasn't going to touch any SRT to begin with.

And on a side note..... Did you hear that dodge is making a new movie? It's going to be titled:

The Gear Hunter.
