Went and looked at it. No typo 69 is right. However, here comes the good part. (insert sarcasm) One owner, City Public Works dept. Checked it out pretty good since it spent it's whole life at 25-45 mph. Plenum gasket is toast. Trans slips when shifting into OD. Truck ran hot. Not overheating but after a 30 mile test drive it was 235-240 ish. If you can believe the temp gauge. Plugs look good except for #8, but that is common so not to concerned. 360 is strong but has lots of little things going on. Minor problems that should be easy to correct. The cat rattles like a rattle snake but its a given and the rear end must be dry because the noises coming out of it after it warmed up were ungodly. The trans is the only thing that concerns me. I don't have the time to rebuild it myself right now. So I am really gonna have to think on this one.
If i can get it for 2700-3000 I may just do it trans problem aside.

just wondering/i'm not sure - does the transmission slip at OD shift sound like a band adjustment?
hard to say about the overheating. might just need a radiator, might have a cracked head. a compression test would be helpful in ruling out cracked head or head gasket leak.
very loud rear end could be pinion bearing. especially if its towed city equipment, trailers, etc. worst case - paying someone to rebuild rear axle might be a few hundred plus bearing(s).
sounds to me like 2500-3000 tops on price,
with these potential repairs costs:
transmission. $100-1500 service or rebuild?
overheating $150-700 radiator or heads? (needs plenum)
rear end $300-500 paying someone else
cat saws-all
total: 550-3000
if you could get it for 2800 and hopefully only spend another 1000 and be driving it for 3800 would be ok. you could even sell it and make some money if you wanted to turn it.
paying 3800, plus another 1000-2000 would just suck lot of money out of your pocket. plus it would be hard to sell at 4800-5800 with little potential to make any money.

I know, the running hot and the cooked 8 plug don't inspire much confidence. I hope the head is not cracked. No sign of oil in the coolant or vice / versa. I'm sure the cat has been clogged for some time. Guess i should pressure test the cooling system and compression check on the cylinders. They don't seem to have a problem with me checking it out thoroughly so maybe I will give it a go if we are slow at work. I don't know, I have about talked myself out of it. With my luck, as of lately, it would be a huge POS. lol
The slip going into OD could be a band, but doesn't quite feel the same. IMO It's like a delay, then it goes to shift, revs up (aka slip) then abruptly engages. If you turn OD off and back on when cruising it slips to no end. I have about talked myself out of it. Ill check it out some more tomorrow at work but it's looking like it may have just had too hard of a life. might be time for them to put the ol' girl down.
