I barely drove away. Radiator was kaboomed. Limped it to gas station to get some water in it. Call for the nearest body shop.

Made my company do their job. They work out the losses with the other *****. Make sure you have the police report, which I think you do. You then do the work to justify the value of your vehicle. Hence reciepts, comparable sales, condition, NADA, etc. My little jobber was obviously totaled. So my job was to show how much I could sell it for in the condition prior to the accident. Taking into consideration your region, metro city, type of driving. High mileage vehicles in the Los Angeles area are a dime a dozen. Therefore, that factor is actually less of a contributor to the value. See where I'm getting at?

Additionally, I posted earlier here about a rental car. That is a legit measure of compensation during the time you are without a vehicle (e.g., going to work, time to shop for another vehicle, etc.).

Every day...call your insurance company for status. Do not talk to other companies or the other drivers, unless its to confirm WRITTEN facts. Things can quickly get...messy.

Just remember your company as all insurance companies...go low.

Edit: DO NOT CASH The check unless you are certain it is a justified value of representation/compensation.
That's a lot to consider. And the check that's coming is for the body shop. But I get what your getting at

Thanks.

My step son totalled his mothers car a couple years ago. One car accident, just our ins co. They made offer, but it was about $2000 short of paying car off. Payments still due 1st of each month.'

I told them I wanted their comparable data. They used sale prices on casr as far away as Laredo and El Paso (like 500 miles away). Also used private party ads in newspapers. I called, some had been sold, some websites did not exist, and cars on the border are generally crap. No one from this area goes to El Paso car shopping. I did my own comps, and also noted that I had dealer replace engine 2500 miles prior to wreck (warranty). Took about 3 weeks, but received another offer - $300 more than payoff at original offer.

Lesson - Just say "don't think so" and do your homework.

Just got off the phone with AllState, diminished value has to be accessed after the repairs are done to the vehicle, gave me a phone number to follow up on after I get the truck back. Down the right path at least

Well stopped by the the shop today, truck is looking GREAT! It will be ready this afternoon, just waiting on the check to come in the mail, either Saturday or Monday. I owe $200 because they had to get a new hood/grille/hinges - my fault, not accident related, and happened after the adjuster came and inspected the truck.

It didn't get a full paint job but did get all new pinstriping and a bug deflector for the hood and head lights. I think they buffed it though, the rest of the truck looked very clean and white, different then I remember...

Can't wait.

Edit: I was going to get a hood/grille from a local JY for $150, the body shop got the hood/grille/hinges and painted/pin striped it for $200.

I got my truck back, posted a new thread with a couple of decent pictures in the General Discussion Section. Looks really good. Now, to file a Diminished Value Claim!

Well just got a call from AllState, they don't do diminished value on vehicles with over 100,000 miles, mine had 147+ at the time of the assessment. WTF?

Once your vehicle has 100,000 miles, damage no longer affects the value of the vehicle. Everyone knows that c'mon Stewie.

Apparently not me. This is the first time I've ever been crashed into. I've never dealt with insurance companies before on claims of any kind.

But now I know

On a side note: Another donkey in a new *** huge freakin Dodge Ram Cummins (Guessing it was a diesel) nearly wacked the passenger side of the bed by the wheel well, it was at slow speeds so only the new Dodge would have been ruined But it would have been ok too, that wheel well has a little bit of rust, could have gotten another paint job. Oh well...
