Cool Going mudding today, Suggestions on Air Intake Protection

Don't forget that daylight savings was today. Fall BACK, 1 hr people.

This seems like it should be a general topic given the breadth of air intake configurations.

So, how would you, preferably cheaply, protect your air intake from water consumption while mudding/river crossing/etc.??

Rules that I urge you to follow, but have no means to ENFORCE!!

1. Please state your air intake configuration.

2. Explain the method to your madness of the protection mechanism.

3. Post some damn pictures or sketch or graphical representation. Methods could be actual photos, links to actual products, Google Docs Drawing, etc.

1. I have a K&N CAI setup. The filter is up behind the passenger headlight. This is nothing special as most of you have seen such a setup.

2. I don't have a method...so I'm looking for your suggestions.

First, clean that filthy filter!

Then get the filter sock ("drycharger") that K&N makes specifically for that purpose.

Otherwise, you're in great shape because the fan can't blow water to where you're drawing air. Just don't submerge the front end to hydrolock the thing and you'll be in good shape.

Wash? What does that word mean? I still have mud on my firewall from 6 years ago.

Both are clean, perhaps a mite dusty but not overly much. I only pointed out the OP's filter because it matters.

Is it really worth cleaning? Should I consider just buying a new one? I've misplaced my oil kit.

Ended up not getting too muddy. Too many people in the OHV park where most of the mud was. Instead ran some rock obstacles. Few pics here of my buddy's truck. I've got video of his rig done, but not mine. I can't link to my youtube while at work.

Youtube username is same as here though if you wanted to look. Oh wait, I did make this thread in the Off Topic forum.

Both times i've gone to this park, everyone stops to watch the green monster. It's pretty darn cool.

Last picture here, I had to give him a little tug.
