How many of y'all still got a timing light in your tool box? I do - ain't touched it in about ten years, but it's in there, LOL...
Yep, got mine! And my dwell (and tach/volt) meter, long offset distributor wrench, contact burnisher, and ignition wrench set, too. I haven't gapped a set of points since selling off my Scout seven or eight years ago, but I came across a spare set for it just the other day and was reminded how much I love electronic ignitions.
Most guys at this elevation never bothered with timing lights at all -- one without an advance **** is as worthless as factory specs are at this elevation. Myself, once I got the timing right I'd spin the advance **** to get the mark to TDC and make a note for next time.
I really don't miss pulling over to adjust the timing when traveling to lower elevations, or getting back into the mountains with too much premium left in the tank. Our modern electronics are pretty darn marvelous.
I have a dwell meter as well. I would be surprised if a majority of members here even knew what that was.
V-10 doesn't have cap/rotor. And, its DIS. Distributorless Ignition system.
I do too! Timing light, dwell meter, point burnishing tool...and I used them within the last year. With a 88 carbuerated 454 snd a 74 VW these are tool box essentials! (It did take a while to dig them out of the bottom of the tool chest!)
Hell I carry an extra distributor I rebuilt in the VW just in case...
I keep an extra serpentine belt, jug of water, bottle of brake fluid, and normally a quart of oil in the toolbox. Among various tools and my container of turtle wax.

Do you ocassionally feel a need to pull over, and wax your truck?

Well.... I got the green container, the super hard shell. Waxed it over 4 weeks ago, it still shines and beads water like I just did it.... Think I'll use spray wax next time though. That's a lot of truck to wax with compound...
