Your Plenum Gasket Pictures -- Post Up
#61
The Plenum gasket is the one at the bottom of the intake (kegger). Stock setup is the aluminum intake bolted to a steel plate with bolts that were just a hair too long so the gaskets end up blowing out and oil from the lifters is sucked into the intake. This can cause a variety of problems (oil consumption, loss of power, clogged cat, global warming and possibly male pattern baldness.)
The plenum gasket is totally different from the head gasket.
If you go to the FAQ/DIY section there is some great info on the plenum fix and some good pics to familiarize yourself with where the gasket is located in relation to everything else.

Grew up in the Roanoke area but live down outside Abingdon (next to Bristol). Most of my family still lives in the Roanoke/Rocky Mt area so I'm up there quite a bit. Back in the late 80's I spent a lot of time out in Lynchburg...have some hazy memories of the 501 Club. lol
Next time you're in town, swing by the T room and have a cheesy western for me!

1999 1500 5.2l
Miles: 78K ish -- This plenum has been blown well beforehand.
Gasket Blown? (yes/no): YES, 3 places and others on the verge
Replacement? (yes/no/other): Yes -- Hughes kit
I helped my buddy with his gasket replacement tonight as it took 4 hrs to break it all down. Intake out and most everything cleaned. Swapped all the gear off his intake to my former one. Put on the Hughes kit. Cleaned up gasket faces on the block and called it for the night.
Two bolts (pass side, front and back) were broke, but not by us. We believe a PO went to attempt the fix and broke them and said...no way not gonna deal with it.
