Bullspit!!!
THIS IS SOME BULL****!!! Just when i begin to get ahead in life something comes along an sets me back. Every damn time! now i know that life is a full circle and with the goods are the bads, with the highs the lows but what the ****! just six months ago i had a finacial domino effect, i struggled to get by and smooth it all out and i did-Just recently i came out of the hole and was begining to make a new start for a secure fututre for my kids and wife. Now not even weeks later its all going south again. Things with my wife's income, are having a negative. and get this... i got my plenum plate and manifold bolts from hughes. almost done with my truck I fixed the vac line this weekend. the same ****ing day my kit comes in the mail my transmission starts to slip!!! i haven had my truck but 5 to six months!! its not changing gears. not sure about 3rd and 4th, havent taken it to those speeds. it rev. to about 4k before switching between 1 and second gears after taking off from a red light this morning. yesterday i checked the fluid and it was kinda on the low side but not actaully low. so i added half a bottle of atf4. the fluid had traces of being dirty the traces that were leeft on my finger when smeared between thumb and index were silver. i checked the fluid again this morning and was darker than normal. i put it in drive two and bout the same, i put it in drive1 and horrible, redlined before even going 30 miles and hr. i called a local shop and said about 1800 dollars for my tranny to be rebuilt with upgraded parts. i have no clue were im going to come up with that WTF!!!! selling the truck is just stupid because i know what needs to be done and what was already done. to sell it and buy another one is more money than a rebuild and money i dont have and just putting me with something that could blow again at any time (id have to get another ram -just with a back seat) i am very intriqued in the idea of rebuliding my self but ahhhhhh so frustrated gotto to back to work... sorry for the rant

everything will be ok man, weve been there. 3 weeks after i bought my rig i was 60 miles from home and my T-case grenaded destroying my rear drive shaft. once i fixed that my tranny went out. when it rains it poors....but even after a 40 day and night flood the sun still came out. you will eventually see the daylight man, you just need to keep at it
If you have a place to do it, the rebuild is not that difficult. Hardest part is the OD unit (800 pound spring). Need some tools, a way to lower and lift it. $1800 is pretty high (close to Viper price). You can do it for about $400 or so.
Slow down, breathe, breathe again. You can do this. You have the manual - read that section. You have DF too!

find your closest harborfreight, buy the tools and make it happen! may be able to offset some of the costs if you get some tools that friends need or people you know need and get a small service charge for using your new tools! e.g. the press!
Well the press im prettty sure I can manage at work im going to take a look around. I looked at the thread where the guy was doing a right up looks doable. I have a basement and a shop table I can snag another shop table and I have a 3 ft shop light I can hook up. The problem is getting to work. What if I bought a tranny from like craigslist for cheap and rebuilt that one while I finish running tbis one into the ground
Sorry for spelling and grammer on my phone. Also would it make sense to hold off on plenum I have a little money bout 200 bucks I was gunna spend on plugs, wires, rotor and such should I put that off and do tranny filter bands pressure solenoid and remove check valve? Give that a try? Im thinkin costly its better but with the silver gunk on dip stick and darker fluid its a waste better put towards a rebuild. I have faith I can do the rebuild, im very smart and strong (mentally and physically) so if others can do it I know anythi.g I put the powers of my mind to I can do whatever it is

Holy SONVA BigBlue!!
I sympathize just like the other folks here. By your last post, you've come to calm the nerves a bit to put a mean plan together. Your plan looks good and not shot gunned. If I were in your shoes, then I think I would take a day to just search for (cheap) local tranny in hopes of a quick bolt in to run w/o expectations. This is just in consideration of the other circumstances. Risk is the cost/labor of 2nd tranny pooping.
Just thought to offer that option as I know it just may not be feasible. Maybe there is a fellow DF nearby that could lend a hand.

Ok so I looked on craigslist and in surrounding towns there were a few even one for 500 bucks and they would put it in but I dont trust that no warrenty nothing I dont trust to may people when it comes to my belongings because regardless pf how much more knowledge they have than me its me who would do it with care and TLC. However I did find a tranny that rarely goes into 1st gear the guy is selling for 150 bucks if I was to buy one to rebuild here it is theres no others in my area not even mass or parts of NY. I dont have the opertunity to drop mine and rebuild because I need to get to work so its either going to be a shop to rebuild/ swap out or me buying this bad one and rebuilding it. I have a question: the guy states its a 46re/ 4518.... What is the 4518 numbers for? I know I have a 46re but whats the 4518 represent?
