I would make sure to find one out of a 2nd gen. The swap will be much simpler that way, and they should be fairly plentiful. Also if it is an old 60's 6 lug, it is probably a closed knuckle axle, and you don't want that (Not as strong).

Are you planning to swap the rear as well?

Read this:

If for no other reason, it would have drum brakes up front.

Why haven't you called the guy and asked him what it specifically came out of?

I think the more pertinent question is what side is the pumpkin on, pass or drivers side as you know you need one for the drivers side for a 2nd gen.

That too! Wow that totally slipped my mind there. Up through '93 they were a passenger side drop.

The 94+ year Dodge trucks have the front drive shaft on the drivers side of the truck, this means that you need a diff that has the pumpkin on the drivers side not the passenger side.

On the 94 and newer trucks, the transfer case has the output for the front axle on the drivers side. In order to be able to hook up the driveshaft, the pig on the axle has to be on the drivers side as well. Otherwise, there is no way in hell you will get the driveshaft to hook up. Switching over to a passenger drop t-case might be doable... but, that would be a GREAT DEAL of custom fab work, and quite frankly, just isn't worth the effort.

4.88 is as deep as you can go in the 9.25. And i am on the verge of swapping my 44 out for a 60 and doing the 2 different wheels thing cause i bent my upper c when i snapped the axle. But agreed with everything said above. get a d60 from a 94newer ram and have a simple swap
