How old are you on this forum and what is your mechanical abilaty
well, youre sorta posting in the wrong section. this should have gone in the general discussion section. maybe HeyYou will move it.
however, im 22 and i do ALL my own work. replaced my transmission myself back in 2010, replaced my coil springs with diesel springs, put an aal in the rear, installed my plow push plates, plow wiring twice(bought a new plow in january) ha the whole motor apart within the last 6 months, not including the internals. done plenty of u-joints, doing ball joints soon. guess you could say im pretty mechanically inclined.

+1 on moving to the general discussion..
Im 21 and am not afraid to tear into pretty much everything on my truck. Im a certified small engine mechanic and have been wrenching on things since I was about 8 or 9. Ive worked on anything from a weed eater to sprint cars. If there is something that I dont know how to do I know plenty of people that do. Show me once and im good after that.

same here! i learn by doing and seeing, i hate the books. in high school i was made to take auto 1 because i was a junior, and i always used to fall asleep in class on class days because i knew everything for the most part that was being taught. im a hands on kinda guy, if i can do it with my hands im golden, with a book, goodnight and uninterested.
kinda like in one of the fast in the furious movies..... jesse has adhd, and something about cars calms him down,, im sorta the same way, i can be pissed, or worked up over something, and go out to my truck(or car when i had it) and turn some wrenches and i was golden., calmed right down and easy to deal with after that.
feel kinda like a kid, for talking about a stupid car movie, but oh well.

I'm 58 years old, Have been the the trade since high school. I also do all my own work, I repair engines and transmissions for a dodge dealer in the san francisco,ca bay area.
31 years old. My mechanical ability is often realized when something goes wrong and I NEED to fix it. I did all the mods in my sig. So pretty much bolt-ons. I also replaced my rotors with cross drilled and slotted rotors. That is not in my sig, but they are just rotors.
Other things:
1. had a fire under the hood of my 1996 and had to replace the wiring harness and every sensor on the engine (CKP...that one is a doozy). Got that running in 2 weeks. fiding parts took a while.
2. Plenum
Things i think i could do but would take me 3 full days to one week:
1. Camshaft install
2. Transmission install....although the cost of parts needed to do the install would probably run me close to labor charges.
Things I would not even think of doing myself:
1. Diff gears.
2. Tranny rebuild
3. Rotating assembly work

I am 32 yrs old...I am not sure if i meet the official definition of mechanically inclined or not..If something breaks,I try to take it apart and put it back together the same way it came apart ..I am not a problem diagnosis genius..But I have a family member who has been ASE cert. mech.,about as long as I have been alive. He helps with diagnosis sometimes .I lack some tools an confidence in myself...I borrow the tools and pray for the best once its crunch time...
PS..I do use manuals an online reference,if needed or available
