Default Column Shifter Broke

Well dang it...

Things are starting to add up on the 17 year old wheeler.

Been fighting a cyl 1 misfire still. A bit ago, was going to drive it to test a change for it. The column shifter lost connection to the transmission linkage that is in the steering column.

Moving the column shifter has no detent resistance of any kind. Just moves smoothly.

Found an old post by Master Zman -- If that happens, the column must be replaced.

Found this video that explains that, but also did a basic fix. I'm contemplating it or just bypass to a cable shifter that will be done with a floor mounted lever.

Thanks, I guess just threw money at the problem, but I can now enjoy my truck without too much worry of a major break.

Yeah, it's funny I got a couple looks/ comments about doing that at the last competion, while they are sitting in rail buggies that have 30-40k in them.

No...it's just Offroading. Money pits. Just who can do it more efficiently. The buggies can drive in the rain....but do they like it? lol

Nicraage, going to 37s with how you shortened up the rear, will make immense improvement over the type of pits you got going on there. Unless you're already 37s and hard to tell in the vid.

Btw...pay attention to the above column shifter issue I have. It's only a matter of time that it will break.

The buggies don't have a/c either, lol.

Those are 37's on there now. Some of those pits are just nasty.

I watched that the other day, it's a pretty strange issue. In the next couple of months, I'm going to be pulling my dash out for another issue. maybe I should take advantage of that and see if it can be strengthened. They make some pretty cool floor shifters for rock crawling. I'm sure you are aware of them, but they. let you pop from reverse to 1st without slipping past those gears. http://8903e7f0897f2982f439-51d6683c...ler640x480.jpg

My big concern right now is a fueling issue. Apparently either a fuel sync or delivery issue. I've always had a power issue, but a tuner confirmed something is drastically wrong with the fuel. I think I will start with fuel pump replacement.

Way ahead of you. Yes, it's the Art Carr/Winters shifter, which I've had on the list since the build. Just hadn't planned on putting it in due to forced reason...lol

Arriving today or tomorrow.

If you drive on the street still, then I wouldn't recommend doing the REVERSE setup. If you have a tranny issue during D position, then you don't want to potentially blow up the tranny going DOWNSHIFTING to get to N. Something to think about. If you're rock crawling all the time, then yeah makes sense.

As for your fuel issue, that all has to go back to your setup you put in there. If you changed things enough on the timing, for example, then a SCT tuner at minimum is necessary. Definitely look at your fuel pressure though. If you have original, then I'd just replace it as matter of end of life component. Remove that as an issue that contributes to the performance.

My buddy just put one in his jeep this week. I thought I snapped a photo last night of it, but it's not in my phone. He converted to an auto trans, and the install looks clean as can be.

I actually replaced my fuel pump a few years ago, the first time I had engine mods done, and my custom fuel tank made. I did so, because of the exact reason you state; I didn't want to replace it later. I've always had power issues.
I'm working with Hemifever for the tune. I actually purchased it a year ago, and due to faults of my own, I could never get data to him for the tune. I recently hit him up, and without hesitation he said, 'yeah, let's finish it'.
He is the one that told me I have a fuel issue, looking at my numbers I gave him. I'm testing the fuel pressure while driving this weekend.
