Nice build I might copy your bumper though.

 

If you haven't seen one, then here you go. Nothing special, as expected, as it's fiberglass with porky stamped steel brackets. Naturally the way they are stamped makes them more prone to bend. Somewhat makes sense to allow some give.

This will make a good template for making a new one that is much more stout.

 

It looks more like ABS plastic instead of fiberglass. ABS is less priong to breaking when impacted than FG, but harder to patch.

 

Does ABS plastic have fibers like FG? Or itch upon touching?

 

ahhh. No. I haven't crawled under and looked though. Surprising to me they usde fg. Doesn't flex much...but with fibers, it must be. My Yota has steel, but not concerned on my Ram as it is 2wd...and unless somthing goes against any known plans, won't ever be off the road!

Are you going to fab a steel one to replace on yours? Looks like you need more protection to keep from rupturing tank.

 

But off-roading a 2wd is fun..., until you bottom out on the transmission pan

However, your's is just getting too pretty to take off road...

 

The offroad edition trucks have these skids afaik. You're binky 2wd wouldn't care.

Better brackets and skid will be combo steel and high density plastic (i.e., cutting board). Some research to do....

 

Couple more pics from the trip and showing the side flopper. Helped for some good chit chat, reminder of proper spill cleanup (shoveled contaminated dirt into bucket and hauled out), and comms with other rigs going in/out.







I think we went through 5 ppl just hacksawing the tube fender off! Was a hot day.

 

Hitch will be sucked up and tied in.
