Been applying for some jobs, maybe I'll land something. My sister works for a company called The Results Company, which is a call center for XM Radio, they have a few openings and I've thought about applying there...

Going out tomorrow with the grandfather to do a wireless survey and possible installation, maybe 2 installation's even....

As much as I hate working I'm growing sick of being at home with the kids, they are driving me nuts.... And I've not had a dip, cigar, or cigarette since we left Georgia.... Tempted to light one up...

It's 802.11 Wifi. It's nothing but mountains around here and there is a very limited market for DSL available outside of town... Actually, we are probably 2 miles down the road from the last house that can get DSL on this side of town. My grandfather used to have 5 T1 Lines @ $1500 a month each running into this place, but that get's expensive... He think's now they'd run about $600..

Anyways, there's been several new Access Points to go up on various ridges and mountain tops, and with clear line of sight you can get wireless.

You are exactly right! However, I hope I don't have to post that anytime in the foreseeable future... But I think that would look damn good on the truck!

who's putting the AP's on the mountain tops? govt, telco, or private individual?
and the antennas are omni-directional?

how far can you shoot the wifi in an outdoor line of site environment like that?
any idea what antenna is used?

do you need a special antenna to bring the wifi into the house, or does it just filter in directly to a laptop?

i got a buddy that works for a privately owned, rural telephone company in middle ga. they supply land lines, dsl, satellite tv. if there's such any thing as that up there, you should apply for a job there. i got another buddy that works for a REMC (rural elec membership corp), rural equivalent/alternative to Ga. Power or TVA. check out that possibility also. He started as a laborer/driver and they taught him everything.

F*** a deer. i've eaten a hundred of them and every one i've hit has been one too many.

here's a funny story. a long time ago in Athens Ga i was driving to work one morning. Saw a deer coming across the pasture toward the road, it was running a 100 mph. it sailed over the fence and took one more huge leap across the highway - right into the windshield of the guy in front of me. he stopped, not hurt. i stopped. the deer was laying across the hood of his truck, windshield caved in. deer comes to and limps/runs across a field and lays down. i took the guy down to the store and he calls the law. they show up and call a wrecker, haul off truck with guy. i'm still sitting there thinking about the weekend's upcoming keg party and how a deer would be a nice addition. i asked the cop - can I shoot that deer? he said no, I couldn't shoot it, but if it was injured, he'd shoot it for me. I said ok, lets walk down there where its laying. we walk down to within about 25 yards of the deer it stands up and sticks its skinny little neck up in the air. i said - shoot it in the neck, not the body and you can come to our keg party and BBQ. so he shoots/misses. shoots/misses. x6. reloads. shoots some more. deer just stands there. i said - you want me to shoot it for you? he said - hell no, i'll shoot that sob if it takes a 100 shots. so he finally hit it and we drug it up to the road and put it in the back of my truck and i took it back home and quartered it up. i had to throw away one whole side that was bruised but it was a great addition to the keg party. beer, volleyball, music, horseshoes. the cop i invited didn't show up but some others did about 2 am and told us to shut up. ok.
