I am thinking about getting the derale tranny pan and was just wondering if i needed to get a filter extension as well.

It looks like there's a filter extension in that photo.

 

Yeah the derale pan diest come with one but the hughes kit does as well as new hardware.

 

Installing an external filter would be better.... you can an extra quart or so of fluid, plus a better filter, and you AREN'T moving the trans pan down further where it can get whacked by things you run over.

 

Thank you HeyYou. I like this idea, not sure why i didnt think of it. Its way cheaper than a pan and filter extension and it will still give me some extra capacity. Will a regualr universal remote oil filter kit work or is there a special one i should get for transmissions?

 

I think there is a DIY thread in the FAQ section for just such an addition.

 

kool ill look for it. But seems really simple. I went ahead and bought a speedway horizontal remote filter base, now i just need a couple of barbed fittings and a filter.

 

An extenion is available from derale - I have one in mine.

Just a deep pan and/or external filter will not solve high temp issue though. They can help keep temp a little lower, but it would be neglible.

 

well i ordered a line manifold, remote filter kit, govener and solenoid, and i have a filter and gasket kit. Any thing else i should do while im in there? I saw some Seafoam transmission treatment stuff at autozone today. I thought briefly about trying it but i got nervous. Has anyone else tried it?
