i agree with 2x1972. if you are going to paint them do it right and clean them up good the first or you would just be better off to leave them rusty.

Of course it's gonna get nasty, but when I get done hosing it all off under there (which you ALWAYS should do) I would like my paint to still be attached. Not my truck, so do whatcha want, but I just don't like half-assing anything. Still gonna be a sweet swap
EDIT: Also, I would have dissembled them anyway, to re-fresh them and check to make sure everything's good before slapping them under my truck.
