****** block, and double line it. (winch cable goes from winch, thru pulley attached to load to be moved, and back to your truck.) It slows things down, but, doubles the pulling power of your winch.
It's called a s_n_a_tch block. Block and Tackle method of multiplying load. Some images to help you out.
However, you only real use these if the access to the recovery is not straight on or some other obstruction.
For snow stuff like you are intending, these are not typically needed/used. Very dependent on the recovery and so while it's a good tool to have in the bag, it isn't to be used for every situation. You also need to be careful _HOW_ it's used. You don't want to overload the winch, nor overload the recovery vehicle if it can't handle the load (e.g., proper recovery point). Most vehicles its safer to put tow strap around axle tube, then shackle, then tow strap and tow. Or put the winch cable to the shackle.
Do some searching on recovery techniques to see other options.

If you use a sn@tch block in those situations you aren't doubling your pulling power. You attach the block to the anchor and run the cable through it and hook it back on the vehicle, thus doubling your pulling power. Also the more cable ran out of the drum the more power you get as well.
****** block. Basically, it's a pulley with an eye hole. The idea is, you put the block on a hook (or whatever) on the load to be pulled, run your winch cable around the pulley, and back to your truck. It cuts line speed in half, but, doubles pulling power. Makes your winch a 10,000 pound pull.
