I read somewhere that a SBC was cheaper to build than a 318 but required 3x the rebuilds. Don't know if this is true or not, but if so, would be something to take into consideration. Think they were discussing circle track applications.

SBC are so friggin common, and there are so many manufacturers out there marking go-fast parts for 'em, that they are indeed cheap to rebuild, in comparison to a chrysler motor.... and the TPI motors were friggin torquey from the factory..... They aren't really any less reliable than any other motor though. I had over 200K miles on my Formula, original engine AND 700R4 trans, and it still ran and drove great when I sold it.

Chevy's have always been more mainstream than Fords, which are more mainstream than Mopars. It's just a fact of life. No real reason why, as Chrysler has been more innovative than either of the other two throughout the years, it's just the way things are.

especially when it comes to mustang vs camaro, or ranger vs S10...ford has at least double the numbers over chevy as far as vehicles on or broke down along side the road...

all that said chevy is cheaper to build race engines for...and I've seen a lot of chevy powered ford race cars haha

I'm sure ya'll could go on forever. My mom once had a '97 F250 5.4L Triton, got it used with over 88k on the clock, this was in the early 2000's, hands down the best vehicle she's had to this point, the only thing we had to do was replace the front wheel bearings.... Needless to say, I've had to do much more to the Ram....

I guess I was referring to old stuff.

If were talking about vintage cars/hot rod stuff, I will not budge on my statement. The 4x4 community follows suite. Talking about the "Modern" generation (when MPI became the standard) of trucks? You are probably right.

It's lucky for her that no spark plugs blew out. It's a common problem in those Triton heads... just driving along then BANG! Out comes a spark plug trailing slinky threads.
