Currently a PC tech at Staples...... I don't actually NEED the job... but, the extra bit of cash is nice. Main income is disability..... (I have MS)

Dream Job? Bank President......

Or maybe just "President"...... Maybe I'll run as a write-in candidate in 2016.

Shouldn't matter... might have to check the settings on the monitor itself, to ensure that it is actually paying attention to the VGA input..... most automatically sense which you are using.... does it ever display anything at all??

Currently I am working for a concrete restoration company. I am the lead tech and I have a guy that helps me. My boss in the owner. Very small awesome company. We do polymer cement overlays with crazy borders and designs. We do a lot of commercial work with epoxy floors, flake floors in garages, shop floors. Pretty cool stuff, never the same job or design, so keeps it interesting.

On permanent WCB disability from being a Master Marine Tech.

With the help of my wife we run/manage/maintain a campground, run our own small marine business offering private tech services.

Ideal job No idea.

You can fiddle with the darn thing for hours wasting your time and enduring frustration, or just ****** the hard disk out of it and install it into another computer to retrieve your files.

Alternatively, if you've got some kind of LAN and the old one is configured to share the files you're after or has a network server of some kind (FTP, sftp, scp, whatever) just plug the thing into the network without the monitor and grab your files that way.

Blessed are the paranoid for they have made backups.

pull the disk and connect it to a USB adapter like this.
this mounts the drive as a read/write disk, but without having to boot the pc and load windows and all that crap that's likely to fail.

Started with culinary arts school then worked in the field till I was a banquet chef then sous chef. My mental health deteriorated so I quit and went back to school & received a BS in Psychology hoping to help myself and others. Realizing I couldn't help myself I did not want to be hypocritical I chose not to enter the field. Throughout those 15 years I always had a second (or 3rd) job. Including but not limited to most aspects of construction. As the US Social Security Admin actively and continuously discriminates against persons such as myself I'm currently stuck between a rock and a hard place. Ideal, own a shop with a yard, couple different types of tow trucks, repair, build and flip rides...TMI?

Just smart, actually. Every machine on my LAN is running RAID1 and I've got a dedicated backup server on my network that takes snapshots every six hours. With an external drive on that which is synced once a day. The UPS for my workstation and backup server let go its magic smoke recently and I've not yet received the replacement, but my internet server, networking gear, and phone are on their own UPS... And if things get really, really weird I can tether my netbook to my 'droid and continue doing my job.

For silly little expenses there's MasterCard. For everything else there's preparedness!
