2001 Ram 1500 5.9 Basic Mod Advice
I'm looking into a S&B intake ($200), doing a magnaflow muffler ($110), an SCT tuner ($265), and the ff-dynamics electric fan conversion ($275). my hope is to gain a little hp equally important is more MPG. my truck has the 5.9, 4.11s and 35" toyo MT's. I'm hoping with all that that i'll get like 25-30hp and gain like 3-4 mpg.... what are your guys' thoughts? if my #'s are wrong tell me what you think I should expect for hp and mpg please. I know you're going to say put smaller tires on it and all that but that's not going to happen. I just want to keep it how it looks and help the motor a little turn the big(ger) tires and see if the added hp can pay for itself with an increase in mpg. Thanks for the help guys!

First off, you will not get 3-4 more mpg...1-2 maybe, and thats if you keep your foot out of it.
35" tires? Get 4.56 gears to go with them, your trans will thank you.
Fixed your plenum yet? Do that and a full (plugs, wires, cap, rotor) tune up.
To run the SCT you'll need a 180* t-stat. If you're planning on running the SCT you might put Autolite 3923's in there when you do the tune up.
S&B intake really isn't worth the $200, you're better off replacing the paper filter in your stock air box with a Spectre....like $25-30 depending on where you get it. Or going with a 14x3 open air cleaner (old school)
As far as exhaust, the factory exhaust from the cat back is actually alright, go with a free flowing muffler (not Flowmaster) and replace the factory y-pipe to the cat with an off-road y-pipe and weld in a cat if necessary.
I am not expert, but that should get you started.

Thanks for the advice man! I'm not going to to gears just yet, I know I'm going to kill my trans but that's ok. This truck is getting a top gun customz 14" lift and 44's next summer with a BUILT 360 or 408 (havent decided yet) and a mega viper trans. I dont want to do gears just yet and then in 6 months do them again. Just trying to help it out as it sits. Going to need the electric fans anyways to keep the motor cool in SoCal traffic! Keep the advice coming! Thanks again!

Oh forgot to add, the reason I have to get a new intake is becasue the dip**** previous owner broke the stock airbox (idk how he managed it but whatever) so I'm just going to replace it with a CAI or 14x3. That way once it gets a built motor it will have sufficient air flow. FYI that was my thinking

Cut your numbers in half and you should be close. Really gas milage! Your putting in a 14" lift and 44 tires and mpg is the subject. The bigger the truck the worse the mpg, you can add all kinds of motor parts to make hp but you will never see the money back from those parts back in gas, did I say never.

haha no no, that'll be later next summer. After that I wont give a flying f&*^ about mileage. I just dont want people to tell me to do things like a heads and cam to get more power. I just want to keep this low key for right now and relatively cheap. I dont wanna dump money into a motor that in 6-8 months will get scrapped for a BUILT one (potentially with a supercharger). That's why I threw the mileage in there. When the boggers are on it as long as its over 5 mpg I'll be happy

You'll be wanting a rail car full of axles to keep that thing rolling. Or to upgrade to 60's or 70's on both ends before hanging that much rotating mass under the fenders.
