Default 4wd problems

When i put my 2000 ram 1500 in 4h the dash light comes on and the left front tire wheel hops when i turn just like if i was in 4low. i am going to put a posi-lock to replace the cad. i put the front end on jack stands and engaged the 4wd. one wheel spins forward and one backwards and the front shaft turns (faily noisy).
any suggestions?
