Sounds beast. Why'd you get the 1.7 over the 1.6 rockers?

cam could have been enough... but i wanted the most power and torque i could get. using the 1.7's also essentially makes the cam bigger.

Well to bump this up. Most of you know my 2nd gen is gone.

I kept the motor, and will it is getting transplanted into a 2wd 5 speed Dakota in the coming weeks!

Just a few small things left to order.

I'll be getting a thread started in the next few days. Gotta clean up my shop. Got the intake manifold off right now. About to do the timing chain again. Freshen the motor up a bit before it goes in.

Question 2001 2500 4x4 w/ 5.9L Magnum - HP gains?

Just bought a 2001 2500 4x4 Single Cab Magnum with 108K miles. Truck runs great, everything works. But you all know what I'm about to ask. How do you get another 100-ish HP out of this engine while maintaining as much of the OEM parts and reliability as possible? And considering it's current state, MPG's aren't really a concern here. I did read a response in a thread by one member that you can get close to 400hp with the OEM injectors. Just curious what everyone's doing to get there. Or even close to that. Links to how-to's, parts, own personal knowledge shares on this thread would be outstanding. If one does not exist, I'll do my best to create a step-by-step DIY for this Gen 2 forum detailing where I go with this and what the results are. I could potentially condense everything into one post if it hasn't been done yet. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help me achieve my goal!

look up flyin ryan performance on Facebook. He is literally the best tuner for these trucks in the country.

My 2nd gen ram is long gone, and the original 5.9 I built is as well. I do currently have a 5.9 based 365 making 400whp in my 98 dakota currently though.

to get 400bhp is pretty simple. A good cam, an intake manifold(m1 or hughes), long tube headers and a 3" single exhaust. You'll obviously need a tune, and also a wideband gauge.

if you have anymore questions feel free to pm me.
