Default The all mighty tow mirrors

Ok, heres the deal, I broke my right mirror Saturday. Ordered a new set (non tow), which I had a feeling were going to be cheap. Got them today and put them on, and they are. They shake more than a strippers a$$. Needless to say, Im not happy. Only got them cuz I like to have my mirrors and was/am short on cash. My fault. They were $44 shipped, new.

So, in the next few weeks I can afford to get a good set. I would like to get the tow mirrors which Ive wanted. So my question is.... what is a GOOD brand and from where? Im not getting the ones from the same place I got these at.

And for the record, I got them at am-autoparts.com Ive bought other items from them with no problems, so I had thought these would be fine, I was wrong.

EDIT: And I cant edit thread titles on mobile. Should be mirrors. Im sure you guys know that though. Nevermind. Got on the wifes computer to edit. Nevermind again...I see it didnt work. Oh well.

i'm interested too..

want some tow mirrors to replace stockers as motors in stockers are dead. they adjust down, but no other direction works...

and they are heated. so new mirrors must be heated and power.

and "stackable" so I can stack tow mirrors on my tow mirrors with the tow mirrors flipped out without a trailer!

seriously though...everything but the stackable comment

There is a plate that goes on the inside of door panel to stiffen I think. If that is missing it might let it bounce around. Will am give your money back?

I had to replace pass side on my Ram when I got it. Drywall screws and tie wraps were holding the old one on. Mine are defrosting ones. Don't remember where I got it though...

My mirrors are am-autos. They shake like hell when flipped out, but I could care less because I don't tow... They work fairly well put down, they shake a little but nothing to complain about. The adapter plate is supposed to help stiffen it but it really doesn't work with the mirrors out.
They also whistle when you're heading down the road, only noticeable with windows down and no music on.

I just finished a tow mirror install on my '97...as far as I know there is only one company producing aftermarket repop tow mirrors, Kool-Vue. I picked up a set of their non-heated power ones. Was pretty disappointed at how they fit, was expecting a lot better. The mirror doesn't exactly flow with the body lines; doesn't look bad but if you are OCD it might bother you. It's not quite "long" enough at the forward-most point, and doesn't dip far enough down. The fit against the outer window trim is also less than satisfactory. Pictures will explain better:

Also had to whip out the grinder and buzz off a retainer and stud for the power wires... it completely interfered with the rubber grommet for the wire that goes into the truck and wouldn't let the mirror come even close to flush.

That being said, I am pleased with how they look at highway (and above....) speeds. Vibration is pretty much nil even when flipped out. Just make sure you are getting the support brackets when installing. If you can get OEM ones for a decent price I'd go with those. These were a dirt cheap alternative for me at $150 for the pair, so I couldn't resist.

I got them from "carpartswholesale" on ebay. Same company as the one dlyter posted (they have like 4-5 different company names for some reason...). They have a reputation for listing stuff they don't have in stock so be cautious.

Yeah I looked at the kool-vue ones, but theyre about $200 for the pair. I figured for another $50 or so Id be better off with OEM. I didnt expect to find OEM but it just so happens that I did. And they come with the brackets also, so thats a plus. Luckely they state "more than 10 available" and theres 18 days left on the auction. So I believe its all good.

Im not too worried about a refund. For $44 its too much of a pain in the a$$ to rebox, drive my 11 mpg Ram to the P.O. or Staples or whatever to return them.

Yes, I can be lazy at times.

i have the kool-vue power/heated tow mirrors. the drivers side is great, angles the way i want it, melts ice great, and doesnt shake when folded in, or flipped out.

passenger side.... its hard to use the mirror when backing up, as it doesnt show the ground very well, and it shakes like a bastard whether its folded in, or flipped out, but only at highway speeds. i think it needs to be tightened down some more, but im not sure.

other than that theeeeeeeyre great! sorry, kinda in the mood for some frosted flakes...
