Thanks. Also several Cougar axles are the same (or very close to it). Merc provided a link with lots of rear end data, so there are a number to choose from. I just did not want to get too narrow and have to use spacers to get it correct.

I am toying with the idea of a C4 IRS from a Corvette. Have an e-mail to the seller to see if it is still available. Most people don't mod a 54 Bel Air this extensively, so it will be a unique project. Just wish the Chevy forums were as active. They won't be much help, unless I can find a different forum.

I had not found those yet...but did find these:

Front: http://www.fabquest.com/suspension/ifs-kits/49-54-chevy-car-mustang-ii-ifs-suspension-kit-full-tilt-street-rods.html

Got this from article here on a 39 Chevy. http://www.rodandcustommagazine.com/..._involved.html

Rear: http://www.fabquest.com/suspension/3-4-link-kits.html

The front is a little higher than Heidts, but considering everything, the C4 in San Antonio is looking better!

I kinda got side tracked again off the c4 stuff and started looking for a bolt in front ifs system and I found this site.

http://www.streetrodderweb.com/featu...t/viewall.html

and that lead me to this site offering a bolt in ifs, no prices.

So I can make the rear work, but I have to have this. Don't know if I can fab this up without dimensions....or have to spend the $339.

That front suspension is much like the Heidts and several others. Good article on installation.

I may get the front and rear from San Antonio, and if I can't fit up the fis, then sell it.

I did remove engine and tranny, master cylinder, and brake lines. Dropping front suspension (4 bolts left) and the rear end today, then clean and sand the frame to get ready for paint.

So I removed front and rear suspension from Bel Air. Going to clean up frame t get ready to prime. Leaning toward the Corvette C4 IFS and IRS.

Front control arm bushings pretty worn, and rear leaf bushings nearly non-existent.

(I know this isn't a Ram...that's why it is in GD section....and Chevy forums are NOT as good as DF!)

Still have not made a decision on front or rear suspension, but thinking a 4 link set up for rear. Guy with C4 ifs is not responding.

Found this n Craigslist...... "One more thing, have a 350 Chevy engine from a 1972 camaro, could be from a 70 chevelle too. Block casting number is 3970014, other number stamped on it is: L18 72. You check it out. Engine is complete, carburator, alternator, etc. It was working when last used, engine turns. Need $200.00 for that one."

Was thinking a 283, but this price is right! May have to modify frame to strengthen it.

Finally found a source for some of the body panels I need also. Now need to get garage wired for welder and air compressor (so I don't have to keep rolling out extension cords and tripping over them).

That block came out of a 70-73 camaro. Anywhere from 200 to 300 horsepower, and could even possibly be 4 bolt mains. Good deal for 200 bucks... possibly an INCREDIBLY good deal.
