Catastrophic XRF tie rod failure.. JUNK
Okay guys. I know I don't have many posts on this great forum but I have come here for advice in the past and it has been terrific...
Now I have some advice that I can share with you...
A lot of people are saying how good of quality XRF products are, I have a different opinion... About a year ago, I replaced all front end components in my totally stock 2001, 2500 Ram Diesel with XRF products, less than 3 months thereafter I had an XRF track-bar failure where the joint attaches to the frame, I know they offer a "lifetime warranty" on their products but I didn't have the time to sit and wait, or the extra cash to lay out for a new XRF bar while I was waiting for a refund from them... Other than that all seemed fine, until today... Driving about 60mph on a local highway hit a small divot in the road, and SNAP goes my tie rod bar, almost lost complete control of my truck, absolutely damaged a tire and narrowly escaped wrecking my truck... Here are some shots of the rod, it snapped right in the middle not far from where the damper attaches..
The fact that I had 2 failures within a year leaves me no choice to post this and state my opinion that XRF is PURE JUNK... I should have known better and bought AMERICAN Steel from the start... Think twice before buying this product, LOOK FOR OTHER PRODUCTS! Be safe and happy trucking...

And just an FYI, I have XRF ball joints. Had them for 1 or 2 years, I can't remember. Either way I plow and am not easy on my truck, yet they're holding strong.
Basically my experience has been good.
Hope you get it sorted out and glad you're ok.

front end parts are supposed to be super strong and NOT BREAK under normal highway use.
i would contact them and ask WTF ? throw in a few remarks like- I had the wife and baby with me. I never offroad. The wife is so mad she wants me to call a lawyer....
the response I would expect would be something like this:
we'll overnight ship you a replacement at no cost.
we'll send you a prepaid ship label for return of the broken unit for failure analysis.
we'll send you a rebate or discount or other free parts.
anything less than this, and i'd take about 100 high resolution pictures of the broken part and a baby in a car seat, and post them on every auto forum from A to Z. as well as file a complaint with the Federal Highway Safety.

holy crapola!!! here i was going to order xrf ball joints for my truck soon... ive got the same ball joints that were on my truck when i bought it still, and theyve been through 3 seasons of snow plowing, and a bit of off roading. on top of that, ive put 40k on the truck since ive had it, and they have not been easy miles!

Wow, I bet you had to change your underwear after that one!
What I have heard is people recommending XRF ball joints, not other parts. But as for me, I'll stick to genuine Spicer/Dana parts up front. So far, I'm still on all stock tie rods with over 154k. My track bar is Thuren.
What is the insert in the bar? Looks like it broke at a weld or joint spot? Shouldn't these bars be solid?

Trucks never been off-roaded, pulls a boat 2x a year and saw the plow for about 45 minutes this winter.... Scary part is the ball joints are all xrf as well... Went to the dealer, ordered every single front end linkage component (ouch) and figured while Im at it I would order a red-head box, might as well do it all at once... Seems like theres an insert in it, from the outside it looked like it was all one solid piece.. Just sent them an email, we'll have to wait for a response.. I'll keep you guys updated...
