Any interesting engine swaps in a 2nd gen?
Chevy could have got a LOT more power of the 454.... I think they were under 300 from the factory. What a waste of all those cubes.
LS6, or even 7 if I could find one..... bigger is better.
I thought an LT5 would be way cool..... (the 32 valve 5.7 liter in the early 90's ZR-1 Corvettes...) but, 30 grand JUST for the engine is a tad steep.

that's what I figure...
between a T56 transmission (6-spd manual with double overdrive), and swapping the rear axle gears for 3.43 posi instead of 4.10 posi, it should do quite nicely on fuel economy considering the S10 is over 1000lbs lighter than my old 94 Z28, and it has a full truck frame which will help it handle higher torque loads without body twist..
camaro got 20mpg+ average with a LT1 350, T56 and 3.43..so a lighter vehicle should be able to do better yet!

maybe fab up traction bars to help keep the rear end from washing out or wanting to break loose 90% of the time...
i think i would second the 440 idea. i like the sound of a big block and they make lots of power.

Big blocks are so nice, and with a factory cam, they idle as smooth as glass.
I agree with wombat, if a guy put a chevy motor in a dodge he needs to get kicked in the mangina (if he is going for chevy he don't have a sack anyways
). yeah yeah not a big chevy fan here.
I don't know Ive always been brand specific. I HATE seeing like a cummins being dropped in a Ford. Or the people who build Model A hotrods then put a 350 in it.
I don't know why, just erks me. I do have to say that a stock 454 doesn't have alot of power. The garage I work out, that is what we have in our rollback. Maybe my expectations are a little high but for that many cubes, it should be throwing out more power, at least in in my opinion.
If ya wanna do something cool, then put a mopar motor in it. Either build yours up or put in old school carb motor in it. Hell personally I think it would be great if somebody swapped in a viper/srt motor, that would be AWESOME!

you do realize Ford F650's have both cummins and caterpillar engines as a factory option right?
cummins is not a dodge engine. never has been, never will be. cummins is its own brand, just like caterpillar is its own brand.

So do some Chevy Topkicks. My neighbor has one with a Cummins.
And has anybody mentioned the Ford 400?
Long stroke motor with 300 hp stock.
And what about the Vortec 8.1? Another long stroke motor with 350 hp and over 400 lb ft of torque stock. And the gas mileage is what you would expect with a big block.
