Default Winch Poll

I am going to get a winch for my beast of a ram.. but I am not sure what brand to go with.. I'd love a Warn but I can't see paying a cool grand for one.. Any ideas??

How much does that beast of a truck I own weigh??

Does anyone know if it will fit behind the bumper??

1) Have you looked at the sticker inside your door that lists your trucks weight?

2) Have you looked behind your bumper to see if there is any room to mount a winch?

There is a new winch manufacturer on the scene, selling 12K winches for around 300 bucks on EBay. Put a front receiver hitch on your truck, get a receiver mount for your winch, wire things up nice, and you can then use it from either end of the truck.

One of the off road mags did a full test on winches, you might try and find it as it was pretty good.

Found it.

You probably need a new bumper designed to house a winch. Or a custom made one. Don't think you can mount one behind the stock bumper anywhere. Could be wrong.

This, from a quick google search:

1998 Ram 1500 Short Cab Long Bed:
Weights: gross vehicle weight rating (kg) 2,903, curb weight (kg) 1,833, gross trailer weight braked (kg) 1,633, front axle weight (kg) 1,656, rear axle weight (kg) 1,769 and max legal load (kg) 996

Where's the poll?

I had a Warn 8274 on my 79 chevy K30 and a Warn M12000 on my 87 GMC K2500. Both never failed to get my stupid butt out of trouble. Obviously I vote for Warn. Look into their VR series. They're cheaper and priced to compete with the entry level winches coming on to the market.
