I've already got a catless truck that burns more fuel than a Ram, I know what it smells like. No thanks.
Actually the exhaust smells no worse than it did with the cat and fuel consumption has not taken a hit, it is a littler louder with the stock muffler, but not much.

Better than a gutted cat..
Maybe your cat had a small (small) hole in the honeycomb that was allowing unfiltered exhaust by. My 76 will burn my eyes if I mess with it idling too long in the summer. It burns a LOT of fuel.

Sounds like it's running too rich. I don't have a vehicle with a cat on it and all of the fuel injected ones have no odor or will burn your eyes. My 86 Monte Carlo with a 540 BBC and 950 Holley runs a bit rich at idle and you can tell.

It's actually not as bad as it used to be. Still stinks, but not terrible. Got an 800-ish CFM carb on it. It stumbles off idle when you romp on it.
