I saw the holes. Had to put the ugly thing back on. Gonna have to come up with something different. Maybe remove the light and put some kind of trim over the holes. Have to think on it.
Heh, I got an idea. It would be a bunch of work but it might be cheap.
Go to the junk yard and try to find a Ram with it's tailgate. You'll want one with the factory protector on it that yours has. Try and pull that one off. Then put the junk yard protector on your tailgate.
*BOOM* No holes!
Will it actually be workable? I have no idea. I'm just throwing that out there.
Thats what I am thinking about. IF I can get the thing off. My pick 'n pull doesn't have any power out there so you have to take a genny or battery powered tools and those things are easier to get off with a heat gun.
If you don't want it, send it to me. As for lights on cars, if they are factory, yes they should be working. All about safety right? On big trucks, it is definitely a fine if they aren't. All those pretty chicken lights on trucks? Not fun keeping up with all of them working. Trucks get inspected every scale or random DOT inspection or traffic stop. Cars get a little leniency.

On disability now, but a former Class A driver. Still have the license to drive tractor trailers. I did manage to pass my inspection. He told me he wouldn't have worried about that particular light too much anyway, because its more or less just a clearance light, but he knew it wasn't factory because at the same time I bought my 5.2 2001, he bought a 5.9 2000 and has been researching them about as hard as I have.
You might be able to find a descent TG at your local U pull it JY , that has the whole black trim piece on it.
At some point in the future I am planning a paint job so maybe I will look for one. I have so much to get at the pick 'n pull (or as I call it, the ****** 'n grab), I will have to rent a tractor trailer to get it all home.
