Default Changed oil and found this on my block...

This is a 5.9 Magnum in my new to me Jeep. Today I found this writing on the block. Does anyone know, or have a good guess, what it means?

It has been suggested to me that it may be oil codes. CD CC 30 weight.

Anyone agree?

Welcome to DF.

I will move you to the correct section. For future reference:
https://dodgeforum.com/forum/dodge-r...ead-first.html

Since this is the 5.9L, I will move you to the 2nd Gen Ram section, since they have the most experience with that engine.

Looks to me like markings a junk yard would put on something. Motor may have been replaced.

Thanks for the input. I don't mind if it has a yard motor but would like to know the miles on it. I'll check with the previous owner.

It runs good. I'll do a compression check.

If it runs good I wouldn't worry about it at all. If you want to keep it that way, read the plenum sticky and check out all the good info in the FAQ/DIY section.

Compression numbers...opinions welcome

1...158
2...142
3...160
4...162
5...154
6...150
7...150
8...158

I think I'll go back and do a wet test on 2.

How do those numbers look for a 5.9?

Number 2 is oddly low compared to the rest, but everything should be good for a while.
