Thanks for all your help guys. just one quick question: can i make a transmission from a 98 5.2 auto 4x4 fit my 2wd? I've been told that if i change the back end of the transmissions this will fit. Only asking because i can get the transmission from a 98 5.2 4x4 today, whereas 97-99 2wd tranny is playing difficult to find in my local srap yards.

 

Swap out the O/D unit, and it should be fine. I think.... trouble is, is your O/D unit in any kind of condition that you would want to do something like that?

Best bet is to expand your search, get the right trans, that you KNOW will work. Makes life a lot easier.

 

And I wouldnt even bother throwing used unknown condition trans in it.
