From what I seen on my heads today, looks like some of my valve seats are pretty gone but with measurements tomorrow will determine if they're good or not.

To be honest, I wouldn't even waste money on the stock heads. They are prone to cracking due to being excessively thin castings. You can pick up a pair of NEW, BETTER than stock heads, for right around 600 bucks from Odessa/Clearwater Cylinder heads. They have a website, and also an Ebay store. Might end up being cheaper if you need to valve seats pressed into yours.

I did look yesterday to see what heads are out there that I could afford. Closest ones I found were for $440 off ebay. It doesn't look like I'll need more than a few (3-5) valve seats done. I figure it'll be cheaper to just buy new heads but with money still being tight on me, I was just gunna get my heads I have now to work till I can afford heads down the road. That's kinda my plan.

Not quite sure, never got to measuring them today....what I'm thinking is: Is it gunna be worth it to dump money into my current heads when I could just skip them and buy a new set and not waste more money? I really don't want to take a chance of mine cracking unless I absolutely need to go that route.

A new set is the best option. Better thicker castings, they flow better. Not that much more expensive either.

Yep, and say I throw $150 at my heads now so that they'll work only to get rid of them for a new set ($440-600). Doesn't really pay....now to persuade the folks that reasoning and find some new heads for less than $500, I've found only one set so far...any other places besides ebay to look for?

Glad you are going for new heads. I was hoping you would come to your senses. Putting old cracked crap on a new motor would be dumb. Take your time with this build and don't be in a hurry, save up for the good parts to do it right the first time, you won't regret it.

i bought my heads from odessa, they were ported, and polished, and had 1 piece stainless valves. also had upgraded springs. paid 720 for them, shipping included. stock sized valves.

could have asked for a better set of heads!
