You can do it. If you want to use the 2500 springs you will need to get the hangars. They are 3 in and 1500 are 2.5

If you want to use 1500 springs, then you have to cut the perches off and move them in like a half inch, idk for sure, you should just measure.

And then you have to figure out about the driveshaft and the way it attaches to the rear axle

Did the 80s even come in the 2500? I thought you could only get a 80 in a 3500 which beans it's a dually axle.

All this applies to 70 and 60s

Yes, the D80's were in 2500 4x4s, usually with manual transmission and the ONLY axle allowed on the Cummins HO.

But as you said, HM, you'd need hangers and springs.

But why go D80 on a half ton? D60 is more than sufficient on a 1500.

Check on available gear ratios also. IIRC, seems like there's not much available in lower gears for the 80. I may be wrong, but do check first if you're considering it.

An 80 is pure overkill, 60 or 70 would be better.

Since this is just a random thought of discussion, then I'd say get one of them *****! Especially if you're gonna mud wreck it!!

You can also find them in some V10s, which are not dually. These would be nv4500 and it would have 4.10s. Cuz a coworker has one of these bad boys.

Thought the V-10s' with manuals got the D70? D80 was only found behind diesel with manual trans?? Not the case?

I had a beefed up 2500 5.9 from the factory, five speed with 4.10s, and a set of overload springs that could haul a house. I am pretty sure it didn't have a D80. IIRC it said spicer #6200 on it somewhere. comparing it to my dads 1 ton, single tire powerstroke, the differential itself wasn't as big, and we were pretty sure he had a D80.
I think it was a D60, but my front axle was clearly labeled as a D60 so i never understood why they wouldn't be labeled the same if they were in fact the same axle.

5.9 magnum? if so the rear is def a 60. front 60 is a driver side drop steer axle. so defeintely a different part then a rear axle.

plus chrysler is weird the build sheet says my rear 60 is something in between a 60 and a 9.25 like 220m or something weird. the front is listed as a 248mm
