Check the front cab mounts the ones welded to the body not the frame. Check the front fenders for rust as well. $2800 is what I would offer on that truck just because I know what auto body parts cost. I would not spend a dime fixing that box rather find a mint used one and have it painted to match.

Got a story for you guys. Been talking to a guy with a 98 QCSB 2500 5.9 v8 for a few weeks now. Really nice looking truck. Body looks real good and hes asking a more than fair price: $4000. I recently made plans to go get it this weekend. Well today I ran the vin # he sent me and it turns out the truck is registered as a 1996 5.2L V8. Well they never made a quad cab in 96... So I questioned him about it and he said he actually has 2 vins for it.. "The first one is what the truck is licenced under the second is what i order parts with." 0_o. To me this sounds like a hackjob that will only get me in trouble with the law or cause me grief. Just a reminder to all you guys out there buying vehicles - double and triple check the vin #. Don't assume just because the seller has the ownership that all is well. Lesson sadly learned.

Probably a cab swap, or something similar. I would be curious as to why it was done.

If it were a cab swap though the ownership of the quad cab would be 1998 not 1996 though. The cab itself even though its a quad cab is registered as a 96.

Is the VIN sticker on the dash, or is it riveted to some pinch weld on the cab? Wonder if he just re-rivited the VIN on there... or did a dash swap, or what.. Would be interesting to look at, but, just a bit of a cruise from here.

He got back to me with another vin # and its for a 98. He said "that's the vin for the 98 but its registered to the 96." What does this all mean?

Call and ask an insurance broker what this means or the cops.

I called my insurance company and they told me its fraud and if I were to buy the truck and get caught with the vin #s switched on the cab I would be in big trouble and in case of an accident, the truck would not be covered...

Well so much for that.. Ever heard the saying if something appears to be too good to be true it probably is? Damn.
