The extra cost is due to the billet shafts or whatnot. Them's expensive.

If I was you I'd swap to a NV4500...

Ding Ding we have a winner.........................................Yep them things are expensive. I am finding out PTAC can be pretty expensive compared to other shops.

I am really thinking about going back to a manual but with my bad right leg I worry about not being able to drive it right. And that was why I switched to a auto tranny in the first place was because of my leg. On a street rig I do fine with a stick. My 3rd Gen 6.7 was a 6 speed and I had a blast with that thing. But on a trail rig I worry about have to 3 foot it on hills and rocks. You're just way more smoother with a auto off-road.

^ Could always scour the local junk yards and pickup the cheapest 46RE you can find, and have a shop rebuild to Viper/Mega Viper specs...

Yeah, PATC has a parts kit to build your own for around 900.00. Or, on page six of MonteC's thread, there is a list there he put together for a member that regularly towed a 7k pound trailer. That should be a pretty stout trans for a trail rig.

Stewie,
I know I can't find one on Craigslist that is for sure. I can rebuild it myself if I could get my hands on one.

Found this one on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/161092673852...84.m1423.l2649

There's a special kit out there somewhere that makes clutching almost effortless. Can't remember where I saw it, basically it's a power assist, same principle of a brake booster (i.e. power assist to apply the brakes, the mechanism is different), so that may help depending on how your leg is bad :/

That's basically a stock rebuild, with the sonnax sure cure kit installed. (the converter will charge in park, and you can check your fluid in park as well.) No stronger than stock.

Clutching isn't the issue. My left leg is fine. It is my right leg that is the problem. I have nerve damage from the knee down so my foot doesn't always work like it is suppose to. So when I try to 3 foot it my foot on the brake & gas doesn't work. Hell I had a dual disk clutch on my diesel truck and had no issues.
