Which Tranny?
#22
Merc,
Don't start looking just yet. I might have a line on one too. This whole thing has just gotten to be frustrating as heck. I am torn between staying with an auto transmission and going back to a standard transmission. I know I can't compare the 44RE to a 46RE but the 44RE in the Jeep has been rebuilt twice already since I did the engine swap. Now some of it was due to my transfer case going **** up and bearings seizing up but when that happened my first thought was "If I had a stick in here this wouldn't have happened".
I do think the guy I spoke with from PATC is overbuilding the tranny and I should just order what I had planned on in the first place.

Well I just got off the phone with my transmission builder!!!!!
I was doing some more searches and found a guys name on Speedfreaks dot com. His name is Martin Saine
951-907-0434
msaine1213@aol.com
And he builds some good transmissions. These were his prices back in Dec 2009 so they of course have gone up.
46RE Street/Strip Transmission and Performance Converter - Shipped $2250 + $500 Core charge. 700 horsepower package.
44RE Street/Strip Transmission and Performance Converter - Shipped $1950 + $500 Core charge. 500 horsepower package.
He is going to build me an off-road tranny for $2400 + $295 core & $195 shipping. It will have all updated clutches and his own custom valve body.
The price includes the torque converter also. These prices are not his normal price as he is giving me a military discount on some prices.
So my search for a tranny is over. As soon as I get my tax return I'll be ordering it. Each tranny is made to order and takes 4-6 weeks which works out great for me. So I should have my Jeep back on the road by the end of April or beginning of May.

According to my transmission guy the only major difference between the 46 and 47 was that the 47 has more clutches in the packs and IIRC a different spring or something. So yes the parts will go right in place. There are a few other differences. The trans shops around here will just put 47 parts in the 46 if the engine is stock and they hold up very well with an upgraded cooler.
