No, the wife is convinced she can't drive a stick so its gotta be automatic in every car we own. Well,... except for my MG. She has driven the MG but will not even try if I'm not with her.

Anyone got experience with flea removal? Been dealing with fleas for the last month or so, all of our pets are outside animals, have been for a few months now.

Done the usual store bought flea bombers, work for about 3 days before more fleas. Guessing it's killing the adults/babies but not the larvae. Been putting down borax/salt, I read it will dry out and kill them.

Running out of ideas, not really wanting to have to pay an exterminator.

Any suggestions?

Get the RAID Fumigating Fogger. I think they are sold in packs of three. I have a 1400-sq/ft house and would fog the house with about eight foggers. Read the instructions carefully as the foggers are designed to be dropped in the supplied cup filled with a small amount of water. We would Place one in each bedroom, one in the center of the hallway, another in the kitchen, and then two in my oversize living room.

The good: Anything that (literally) flies into your house for the next few months will literally drop dead in minutes. The bad: Lengthy prep time that involved clustering furniture and covering sinks, the stove, the TV, etc. etc. etc. with sheets. All bedding must be stripped as well for the most effectiveness. The instructions say to leave the house for three hours, but for the best results just leave for the entire day. Upon returning home, open all of the windows and let the place air out for several hours. Spend that time laundering everything.

As far as the animals, add yeast to some wet food every day for a month. Something about the yeast makes them unappetizing to fleas.

Putting a bit of vinegar into their water is supposed to help as well.... My dogs didn't seem to mind the taste. Not sure how effective it was....

I think the best thing I did though, was to go after the problem at its source. My yard.... I sprayed for fleas/ticks last summer, one treatment was all it took, and dramatically reduced the problem. (also deals with mosquitoes....) Had to spray twice this year, as we have been getting a bit more rain.....

We use frontline on the girls (dogs), and it helps, but, it is not the "solution", just one step of many in the process.

I'm much more of a fan for using non-toxic stuff, hence I would use the fogger as a means of last resort. Fleas thrive in moist yards, so keep the grass short and exposed to plenty of sun.

Here are some great tips for killing them in the house and the yard:

We have had major flea issues for the last few years... we finally got rid of them this year. Well... they just never came back. Fleas tend to use certain animals as hosts. Usually older animals with failing health. Our last dog (16) and cat (20) were the hosts. After the dog passed away we still had them but not as bad. After the cat passed which was last september, the fleas have completely disappeared. We now have 2 dogs and 2 cats. Only 1 dog is protected right now (trifexis) and there have been zero fleas!

We have been using Comfortis on our dogs and cats. Its kind of expensive but it does work quite well. I use Ortho bug be gone in the yard and that helps a lot. It says it kills all kinds of crawly things and does a darn good job on ants for sure.

I started putting it down years ago trying to kill the grubs that moles are supposed to crave in an attempt to get rid of the damn moles. It does help, it used to be I could put corn no problem in my back yard because the blind mice had it so nicely tilled up.

I still get a few mole trails but nothing like before.
