Thanks got it. Leave the runners alone. I'll just open it up around the injector tips .

It's not that you loose torque, you move it up in the RPM range... this is fine for racers, but not for street and rock crawling.

I did the kegger mod on my truck, and I rather like the results. Of course, I actually gained power across the RPM range, simply because of how badly my plenum was blown......

The 'mod' that made the MOST difference though, was the double roller timing chain. I did that separately from any other mods, so, it was the only change done..... and I was AMAZED at the difference it made. Of course, my engine had 170K+ miles at the time........

Default Engine for Torque

How would a new chain make a difference? Does it really stretch enough to kill timing?

Mine was REALLY sloppy. I could pull the chain off the cam gear, without unbolting anything... Yes, it was THAT bad. That throws the whole system out of whack. Valve and ignition timing both get severely retarded. (as in: Late. Not stupid. )

Besides fixing the plenum plate what exactly did you mod on your kegger?

Shortened the runners about 1.5 inches, and radiused the openings nicely. That, and cleaned out the accumulation of crap that was in it.... (I bought another intake for 25 bucks to mod, so all I had to do was swap 'em. I spent a lotta hours with a dremel, and sawzall on the intake......)

i have comp cams 20-745-9, along with HS 1.7s. thing was a torque monster when i had my long tubes.

.212/.218

.480/.480

lsa 114

with the 1.7s its becomes .510/.510

cant wait to get my dakota, and get some good long tubes, so i can have fun with the motor!

So far as I know, the chain isn't a maintenance item.... timing BELTS on the other hand.....
