Default shop screwed me?

while cleaning my truck today, i found a brand new ujoint in the box, the hardware bag unopened and zerk fitting still all there. im scratching my head cause i swear i paid my mech to change the ujoint while he was doing my hub assemblies. so i went and pulled the bill. sure enough he charged me for the install of the ujoint and never did. the date on the bill is 4/3/2014.

what you are looking at is the bill, with the brand new ujoint and hardware bag. shouldnt i be able to go to the guy and say either put it in or give me the money back for the installation of the ujoint? or am i SOL?

btw i paid that remaining 72.56.

Did you look at your u joint and see if it's new? Or obviously old?

Maybe he just left a spare in your truck by accident.

You have a receipt of payment that's all you neeed. If it's obvious the u joint never got changed ie old and rusty he wouldn't have any legal recourse.

Maybe he just forgot to do it. It happens.

he certainly didnt forget to bill me for it. i got under it when i found this one and its all rusty and old looking like you mentioned. plus i had already done the passenger side with a greaseable joint, and i bought a greaseable joint for the driver side too. the joint that is on there now is does not have a zerk fitting meaning it was never changed. so how do i handle this?

Go back to him and tell him. He should change out your u joint for no cost. You already paid him for it. He didn't do it at the time so he should have to eat the increased labor time.

Had that happen to me once at Firestone. Charged me for 2 ball joints when only one was changed. I caught it, went back, they refunded my money. Mistakes happen.

Considering the truck is 17yrs old I wouldn't want to be the one pulling the wheel hubs off from it. I pulled mine of both my trucks when they were less than 5 yrs old and that was bad enough. He may have gotten off easy at $312.
