Spools are for racing, where you steer by throttle... they are not for a DD, even if you drove on dirt roads all day.
Fill up with gas, check the oil, and change the tires.
This is correct.

A spool in a street driven vehicle is an accident waiting to happen. Especially if you get snow..... (no turning corners for YOU!)

Spool aren't really dangerous, just foolish for a DD, you tires will wear very quickly and the constant tire chirp will annoy you and attract unwanted attention.

Lockers are fun, if you get around the quirks. Accept no substitute for off-road.

More power needed to forcefully spin one of the wheels on the road every time you try to turn, because there is no differential action.

^^ Spot on.

This Dakota is running a welded rear end. That means the cheapest form of a spool. It isn't a DD, but it is driven on the road to get to trails. Handles good and those old Goodyear military tires bark every turn.

Now he is on some 80% worn 37" Pitbull Rockers that do not (for some reason) bark every turn. Most likely b/c the rubber is more compliant compared to the old hummer tires (very stiff).

The best advise I can give you is to save a little more and get a selectable locker. They are not much more when you already have the money for a locker. The trutrac is a good alternative and is a very good and stout limited slip that works as a locker when you need it to
